Loading describes when the restoration is connected

Immediate loading usually means a provisional restoration is attached shortly after implant placement. Delayed loading allows a healing period before the implant carries a restoration. These are clinical protocols, not simply faster and slower versions of the same package.

What influences the choice

Primary implant stability, bone quality, implant distribution, the planned bite, grafting, smoking and the patient’s ability to follow a soft diet all matter. A provisional bridge can be fixed but is still temporary.

Benefits and trade-offs

Immediate provisional teeth can reduce time without teeth and guide tissue shape. They also require careful load control and may need repair or adjustment. Delayed loading can be safer when stability or grafting is uncertain.

Why plans can change

The final decision may only be possible during surgery. Consent should include the possibility of a removable temporary option or no immediate restoration if clinical conditions are not suitable.

This page is general information, not a diagnosis. Treatment suitability, timing and alternatives can only be confirmed after clinical examination and imaging.
