E-max Veneers

E-max veneers are thin restorations commonly made from lithium disilicate ceramic and bonded to the front surface of teeth. They may be considered to alter tooth shape, proportion or colour when more conservative options cannot achieve the desired change.

Veneers are not suitable for every tooth or every cosmetic concern. The dentist must assess enamel, bite, tooth position, gum health, existing restorations and habits such as grinding.

A veneer primarily covers the front surface of a tooth, whereas a crown covers the prepared tooth more extensively. Veneers may preserve more natural structure when correctly indicated. A crown may be considered when a tooth is significantly damaged or heavily restored.

The words "veneers" and "crowns" should not be used interchangeably. Patients should be told which restoration is planned for each tooth and why.

Assessment may include photographs, scans, X-rays and a bite evaluation. The dentist discusses shade, shape, alignment and expectations. A mock-up or provisional design may help the patient understand the proposed result before final ceramics are produced.

Some cases can be completed with minimal preparation, while others require controlled enamel reduction. "No-prep" treatment cannot be promised without examination. Teeth that are severely rotated, heavily filled, actively decayed or affected by gum disease may require a different approach.

After preparation where required, impressions or digital scans are taken. Temporary restorations may be provided. The final veneers are checked for fit, margins, shade and bite before being bonded to the teeth. Review and maintenance instructions follow.

Ceramic veneers can provide colour stability and detailed control of tooth form. Treatment is nevertheless irreversible where enamel is removed. Possible complications include sensitivity, chipping, fracture, debonding, gum irritation, colour mismatch and the need for future replacement.

Alternatives may include whitening, orthodontics, composite bonding or no treatment. Patients who grind their teeth may be advised to use a protective night guard.

Cost is influenced by the number of veneers, case complexity, laboratory work and any treatment needed beforehand. A personalised quotation is prepared only after the proposed treatment has been clinically assessed.
